This award winning documentary recalls the Cuban Revolution through the voice of the daugher of journalist Max Lesnik, once a friend of Fidel Castro who fled to Miami. The father-daughter relationship evolves as Vivien considers her father’s opposition to the U.S. blockade, his reconciliation with Castro and the violent reacion of Miami’s Cuban-American Community. She struggles to understand the all-consuming and often life-threatening political commitment of her father she also explores the emotionally charged conflicts that have divided the “two Havanas.” While examining the ways in which the US embargo and travel ban and the terrorist acts of Cubans on the extreme right have torn families apart and widened the breach between Cubans on the island and those in exile, she searches for the means of both political and familial reconciliation. Â
The film received the IFPAward , the First Coral Prize at Havana’s Film Festival and was at the Official Selection at Tribeca Film Festival.
