For La Nina, narrator of Postcards from Leningrad, being born into a socialist uprising in 1960s Venezuela wasn’t easy. She and her cousin Teo have learned how to live a clandestine life, making an ongoing game out of survival, with everything from code names and creative disguises to making themselves invisible and devising fantastic escape plans. Using their imaginations, they invent superhero revolutionaries and help their families survive the harsh realities of guerrilla warfare, including betrayal, torture and death. A visual collage with playful animation and nostalgic footage of revolutionary youth, the film injects both humor and pathos into a story where wild imaginations, foggy memories, madness, white lies, and grief all mix seamlessly in a child’s reality.

Nominated by Venezuela for the 2008 Oscars and for Spain’s 2008 Goyas

Para La Nina, su infancia durante la revuelta socialista de los 60, esta llena de obstaculos. Ella y su primo Teo, deben aprenden a vivir de manera clandestina.  Jugando permanentemente a sobrevivir recurren a su imaginacion para inventarse nombres, disfraces para hacerse invisibles, planean escapes fabulosos  y crean super heroes revolucionarios para ayudarse a si mismos y sus familias a sobrevivir la terrible realidad de la guerrilla, incluyendo la traicion, la tortura y la muerte. El film, un college visual con animaciones juguetonas y nostalgico material de archivo de la juventud revolucionaria, inyecta humor en una historia donde la imaginacion liberada, los recuerdos nublados, la locura, las mentirillas y el dolor constituyen la realidad de su mundo infantil. 

Nominada por la Republica Bolivariana de Venezuela para los Oscar y los Goyas (2008) Ganadora  del premio al Mejor Film en el Festival de Biarritz.
